Introduction - Tatler Media pack

1) How does the editor introduce the magazine?

The magazine is more interested in fashion, merchandise, beauty and ‘lifestyle’ rather than dealing with news in any depth.

2) List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?

Average Age: 41
Gender: Female- 73%
Social class: AB- 51%
Average House Hold Income: £261,572
People living in London and the South East: 70%
These demographic details about the average Tatler reader suggest that 81% of the readership has an above average income. 44% buy shoes or clothes more than once a month so the cultural context of the magazine could be judged as ‘niche’ (for the few) rather than ‘mainstream’ (for everyone).

3) What do Tatler readers think about fashion? How much do they spend?

£843 MILLION SPENT ON FASHION IN THE PAST YEAR
96% OF TATLER READERS AND 93% OF TATLER.COM USERS OWN DESIGNER FASHION
81% OF TATLER READERS AND 75% OF TATLER.COM USERS OWN DESIGNER SHOES & ACCESSORIES
62% OF TATLER READERS AGREE ‘I OFTEN BUY FASHION PRODUCTS AFTER SEEING THINGS ADVERTISED IN MAGAZINES’

4)What are the special editions of Tatler that run throughout the year? What does this suggest about the Tatler audience? What about the pyschographic audience group that best fits Tatler?

There is a spa edition, travel guide edition, school guide edition, beauty and cosmetic surgery edition, a wedding guide and a jewellery and watches edition which suggests that the audience is female because the covers of these editions are women and the things they talk about are stereotypically for women, it suggests that they are extremely wealthy to the point where the only things they worry about is how to relax by going to spas or holidays and shows they have enough money to do so. It also implies that they are well educated because of the school edition which could reflect how the upper class value education. The aspirer group best fits that audience as everything they do is material based which is why they want to spend money on jewellery and watches to show their wealth to others and impress them.  Psychographic would be Aspirers who are interested in spending their disposable money on fashion, plastic surgery, luxury holidays and purchases that suggest power and status.
